As our family grows and children are becoming bigger, it is easier for us to do upgrades and renovations to fit the needs and comfort of our growing families rather than moving. During fall many of you like us, plan on doing indoor renovations and look for helpful information. Doing the renovations ourself is lots of fun, as it gives us the comfort of using any product we like and saves us a lot of money.
Before starting our projects, it is important to gain lots of knowledge about it. I find Home Depot helps us with this process, since they have educational workshops. Learning about different types of products and how-to undertake the projects to do-it-ourself is very useful and helps clear up questions and doubts.

My husband and I like taking on home renovation projects that we can do-it-ourself. There are so many options available these days that it is very important to first read and research on the products before starting the project.
We are planning on upgrading our half washroom in the basement by adding in a stand in shower. We are thinking of using the Stand in shower kit with the Shower wall and adding the combo shower head hand shower.
Since we started researching on what we like, what we want to accomplish and what works for our family we are thinking of redoing the entire washroom and upgrading it to be modern and eco-friendly. So our project has become a little bigger than we thought, but we are eagerly looking forward to it... I will keep you updated with the project and tips on how you can take on a #bathroomreno project too :)
Here are some simple tips I learned from the Home Depot workshop we attended...
1. Painting: An easy project that will quickly change the look of the entire washroom. Before starting this painting project prep the walls. If oil based paint has been used then sand and wipe before using a primer and paint. Go with paint that is special for bathrooms because it makes it easier to maintain the washroom. If you are planning on using a dark colour, tinting the primer as it will help the final project to be what you were expecting.
2. Lighting: Changes the whole washroom, there are lots of lighting options.
3. Tiling: Use higher end adhesive for ceiling tiles. To tile floors, use only floor tiles. However, we can use floor tiles on walls decoratively. Marble and granite are dangerous on the floor. For inside the shower try to avoid using porous tiles. Porcelain tiles are stronger, although it is duller in colour. The quality of the tiles depend on the price... cheap tiles are not good quality and vice versa.
I will be posting updates on our #bathroomreno project with tips, useful information and our experience in the weeks to come.
