Beaded Jewelry: Creating our own style

Maya Brenner introduces us to simple, bold and modern jewelry making through her book Beaded Jewelry.  Her designs are worn by celebrities and are featured on many magazines and media.

Beads are universally enjoyed and admired because its variety suits everyone.  Making beaded jewelry ourselves is even more fun and appealing as it allows us to become creative, artistic and save money.  There are endless possibilities with this fun hobby.  If you enjoy and want to learn jewelry making, the best thing is to just start by taking a class or pick up a book such as this and learn.

Maya in her book mentions that we choose the right bead according to our budget, desired size, shape, style, material, weight and colour as she gives us all the details we need to know with pictures.  Then she explains about different types of findings such as clasps, pins, rings and ear wires that can change the overall look of a piece.  Everything is named with pictures and explained so we can easily recognize the materials in the store and know how to use it.  Different types of thread, wire, cord, thongs and chain are also explained.  The author also explains the importance of having different types of craft pliers and tools to do our project.

There are step-by-step projects separated into two sections, the Designer Projects and Quick and easy designs that go into detail and explain how to make specific jewelry like earrings, bracelets and necklaces.
The last section tells us about inspiring colour and theme combinations to guide us when we make our pieces.
The book also has a section that explains how to clean, care, mend, restore, recycle and store the beaded jewelry.

After going through the book closely, it will make sense on how to use the beading and jewelry making tools to create fabulous unique pieces.
