The big book of things to make has a cool variety of things we can make, do and learn about. Although, I would love to be good at origami, I am not :). My uncle masters the art of origami and makes admirable things with origami paper.
Origami is a traditional Japanese art of folding square paper to create creatures and sculptures. Following the instructions that were in this book, I was able to make this swan and fox :) My children helped decorate and colour it. If you would like to give it a try, then click the image to enlarge and follow the step-by-step instructions. It is a good starting place for beginners.
The DK big book series is a resourceful book to have at home or in schools, as it gives lots of ideas and teaches many interesting things.

I had a book like that when I was a child and loved to play with some simple origami. My 5 year old daughter is seems very interested, but all we've made together so far is hats, planes and boats! I think it exercises a lot of skills... following instructions, precision, memory, patience, etc. And creates an awareness of the arts of different cultures. :)
ReplyDeleteYour right origami has lots of benefits it is defenitely a good craft to do often :)
DeleteDK does have a lot of good books. I am a owner of a few. I have given my grandson a couple of ones of interest for his age.
