Craig and Marc Kielburger co-founded the international charity and educational partner, Free The Children in 1995. The organization works in rural communities of eight countries providing a holistic and sustainable development model that improves education, health care, agriculture, food security, clean water and alternative income programs.
I had the pleasure of attending We day last year. I am glad the penny drive collected $1.4 million through the We Create Change Water initiative, which has provided permanent source of clean water for over 100,000 people in Free The Children communities.
As a partner of We Day, RBC believes that a continuing investment in youth not only helps young people, but also strengthens families, enriches our communities and builds the intellectual capital needed to ensure the future health and prosperity of our country. RBC is part of programs such as:
We Act Program that strive to inspire the next generation to care about social justice and environmental sustainability. It provides the practical tools to turn that inspiration into action.
RBC After School Grants Project donates money to community based organizations in Canada that focus on a core section of academic and recreational activities to build self esteem and self confidence of youth in a safe environment.
Kids Help Phone, RBC Children's Mental Health Project, Junior Achievement and Pathways to Education are other wonderful programs RBC invests in.
TELUS is partnering with Free The Children as National Co-Title sponsor of We Day for the second year. TELUS's community investment strategy focuses on educating and empowering youth to improve their quality of life and enabling them to reach their full potential.
This year Free The Children and TELUS have collaborated together to bring the We365 app to youth. We365 is a free mobile app and website that enables young people to track and verify their volunteer activities for school, as well as provide the tools needed to fundraise, take action, and amplify messages for thousands of different charities. Phones for Good campaign and Earn Your Way to We Day are other wonderful programs that TELUS is a part of.

Students, schools, families and individual Canadians can support the Year of Education through a number of different ways such as purchasing the ABC Education Rafiki Friend Chain for $10 that provides a child overseas school supplies for one year.
We can collect coins and donate it through the Coin Drive until the end of 2013/2014 school year by taking it to any RBC branch. This money will transform the lives of hundreds of children and empower new generations of learners and leaders. They also have a Cross-Canada road tour and online celebrity challenge that we can participate in.
