My Mom Is a Foreigner, But Not to Me written by Julianne Moore and illustrated by Meilo So is a heartwarming story that made my children and I laugh, cry and cuddle. This book would be a wonderful gift for children any age, as it reminds us about a mother's special love.
The differences of our mothers make them the best for each one of us. The book talks about how our lives might be a little different from our friends because of our mom's accent, food or clothes. There maybe customs such as removing shoes before entering a home/religious place because it is polite, having foreign nicknames and many more. It brings up conversation about differences and similarities between people's customs. I like that this book encourages conversation about things like knowing another language is a strength and having an accent means you speak more than one language and how cool it is. Overall, this is an awesome book and a wonderful addition to the home and school library.
