TIFF Kids International Film Festival

The TIFF Kids Festival is into its 17th year in Toronto, and is the only children's film festival in Toronto. This year there are more than 110 films from 31 countries screening, it is a great opportunity for children to enjoy fantastic cinema from all over the world, much of which they would likely never have the chance to see otherwise.

I checked out a few of the films and shorts that my children and we enjoyed such as Felix, Zip & Zap and the Marble Gang, Fatima, and Ravi & Jane. The shorts Fatima and Ravi & Jane are about 20 minutes and touched on subjects that make children think and appreciate what they have such as their family, friends, homes and more. Zip & Zap and the Marble Gang is a movie from Spain in Spanish that is really funny and had unpredictable twists that shows the importance of friendship, fairness and problem solving.

Felix is a movie from South Africa that is in English, Xhosa and Afrikaans. This movie about 14 year old Felix will bring lots of emotions as it shows life in South Africa as Felix goes to a prestigious private school on a scholarship. The movie teaches lessons about perseverance, forgiveness, community building and music. These shorts and movies from different languages are fun to watch, and the content of the films make us think about what is happening outside of our community. While at TIFF, check out the Kids digiPlaySpace, which is open until April 21. This award-winning exhibition is back for a third year, offering kids and adults alike the opportunity to go on an interactive adventure, with installations from internationally renowned media artists.

  1. I never knew they had one for kids films, would definitely be something worth checking out if you lived in the area. (Judy Cowan)

  4. Great event for the whole family. Living in a smaller area, we don't get these big festivals! Enjoy!
