This Rocks and minerals book teaches us about how rocks and minerals are formed and used. Rocks are natural aggregates or combinations of one or more minerals, which are organic solids with definite chemical compositions. Rocks are formed because of the continual cycles in the geological process that redistributes the chemical elements in minerals and rocks. This depends on the Earth's internal heat and the sun energy on the surface. Interesting information about volcanic rocks, pigments, building rocks, coals, fossils, gemstones, decorative stones, metal and more are mentioned in this book.
The book about Crystal and Gem allows us to admire the beauty and versatility of crystals and gems. This colourful book teaches us how to identify the crystals. It says how crystals work, and how it is used in everyday products.
The book has information about the Hardness Scale, which uses 10 minerals for is scale. The property of hardness depends on the strength of the forces holding the solid's atoms together. I found it interesting that each of these minerals can scratch only those below its scale.
Diamond is the hardest mineral to find, and is famed for its lasting fiery brilliance. Diamonds are measured by four Cs, which stands for colour, clarity, cut, and carat weight. These precious stones that cannot be scratched by any other are found in river gravels, and kimberlite rocks where the term we use is literal "Diamond in the rock." The book also mentions about cutting, polishing, tools used, and more.
These are good books for children to learn about different kinds rocks, minerals, gems and more.
