Crayola Sparks Creativity Win Your Own Package

Crayola has a great assortment of creative toys and gift ideas that are focused on inspiring children and unleashing their creativity. I like how Crayola products give colourful wings to the invisible things that grow in the hearts and minds of our children.

Children will love exploring the art of engraving through tracing using the award winning Crayon Carver. The kit comes with the Crayon Carver Unit, 40 Tiles, 16 Crayons and a Wrapper Ripper. This unit needs 4 AA Batteries, which is not included. The Crayon Carver comes complete with the A to Z alphabet, plus fourteen special icons for embellishing messages and designs such as peace sign, heart, star, spiral, smiley face, or musical note.

To use this Crayon Carver...
First, use one of the two crayon wrapper ripper tool to cleanly remove the label and any excess glue from the regular or jumbo crayon. One thing I wish that didn't happen when using the ripper tool is the crayon getting a line.

Next, lock and load the crayon into the engraving chamber and choose up to nine tiles to start carving the custom messages and designs. 

Then, trace the tiles with the engraving stylus and the mechanical bit will etch our customized message into the crayon. My children enjoyed deciding either to carve the whole crayon or parts of it, and what to engrave.

Once it is done, before removing the crayon from the chamber dust off the excess crayon shavings with the special brush. When unloading the crayon from the chamber be careful to take it out slowly to avoid breaking the crayon.

I like that there is a built-In tile storage that allows for easy cleanup, so we can keep the tools that come with the Crayon Carver organized. We can line up the tiles that we plan to use in the yellow tile bar, or store them up above in the green tile bridge. However, not all the tiles have a spot around the carver in the green tile bridge. It would have been better to be able to store all the tiles around the carver. A removable tray collects excess crayon shavings to make cleanup easy. We can also use these crayon shavings for other crafts like this egg shell decoration we did, so it doesn’t get wasted.  

Children will love giving their friends and family personalized crayons as gifts. I love how this Crayon Carver sparks creativity, encouraging kids to express themselves on a whole new kind of canvas.

Crayola Easy Animation Studio is another award winner that lets us create animated videos up to 12 times faster than traditional stop-motion animation. Children will enjoy designing one of the 10 characters using the included Twistables coloured pencils or any other Crayola colouring tools, and then scanning it into a smartphone or tablet. 

The app imports the character just like it was coloured. By placing the Mannequin that comes in the kit in front of the device and moving it into a series of poses, children will enjoy recording the movements of the on-screen character that mimics the mannequin. It is cool to see how the animation studio automatically fills in missing poses for smooth, full motion making it fun to play back and watch the video to amaze friends and family.

To create a smooth animated clip, traditional stop-motion animation requires the animator to take thousands of photos after every character motion. The Easy Animation Studio creates animation quickly with Smooth Action Technology, so children can animate with less frustration by executing full, seamless animated scenes with just a few mannequin poses, while Smooth Action Technology fills in the rest of the animation. Children can also choose from premade animations in the app. My children created a variety of stories by adding sound effects and a storyline using the app that they can save and share.

Children will also enjoy adding their own customized background, or use the five background designs that come with this kit to set the scene for their animated characters. The app lets us take photos of drawings, colouring pages, and places around the house or classroom to use as backgrounds.
