My family and I enjoy learning about wildlife, and we do this as a leisure activity during our eco-tourism to wildlife parks in Canada, and in different countries such as going to see elephants and turtles. We find watching documentaries and learning about wildlife from books such as this Wildlife of the World book is an extraordinary and a humbling experience for us. The unique habitats of the world that God has created are incredible and amazing, as every species has features that are specific to them, which they need for their survival.
For example, the Arctic Fox has the warmest pelts to survive the coldest weather conditions, and their white winter coats thin and change to gray-brown in the summer to match the rocks and vegetation of the tundra allowing them to adapt and live. Did you know the walrus slows its heartbeat to survive the icy water?

I like how this book Wildlife of the World shows us how species have adapted to live in some of the most extreme environments from coldest temperatures in the Arctic and Antarctic to the hottest desserts. The stunning photography and the detailed text gives us information about how over 400 animals survive life on Earth. The book also highlights the dangers most of these fascinating animals face because of human population that is taking a heavy toll on the natural areas worldwide. I like that the book points out to the issues such as the dangers of the arctic becoming warmer, which affects the growth of plankton that marine life depend on and the sea ice is vital for the polar bears’ to hunt and breed. Did you know that Borneo's forests that many animals depend on are destroyed for oil palm plantations so humans can use this oil for food and cosmetics industries?
This is a fabulous reference book to have for school age children and adults to refer to, as it is comprehensive and well detailed. There is information about the size, weight, diet, habitat, breading season, and conservation status arranged by animal groups. The book is separated by animal habitats: North America, Central and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica. There is also a section separated by mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates. I love how it explains details about different types of forests, grassland, extreme environments, and aquatic environments.
There are fabulous books such as this one, and many others that are perfect to give as gifts to our loved ones at the DK Gift Boutique. You can purchase this book on Amazon and at Indigo.
