Relaxing, Homely Stay at Viamede Resort

We enjoyed a relaxing stay at the Viamede Resort in Kawartha Lakes, while enjoying a variety of activities. The staff at the front desk were friendly and welcoming; we got a run down of all the activities available at the resort when we signed in. 

As soon as our children heard about the water trampoline at the beach they were delighted.

There are a few protected fun-hiking trails that are connected to the resort, which we enjoyed. There is also an animal farm.
We liked the spacious sports field, and spent lots of time running around and playing badminton, volleyball, football, Frisbee, and more. The resort also has a tennis court and basketball nets in a separate space by the Boathouse and the Main Inn. All the equipment we need to play these sports are left for us to enjoy or we could bring our own.  

There is also a recreation room with fun indoor games like foosball, magnetic darts, ping pong table, crafts, and board games. We spent some time here as well. They also have bicycles available if we wish to bike around the path.

There is a children's park by the beach, as well as sand toys that children will enjoy using to build sand structures. They have canoes, kayaks, and stand up paddle boats, as well as life jackets and safety gear to use at the beach. Swimming to the trampoline and jumping on it was lots of fun for everyone in the family.  

It is so much fun at the beach that it is possible for everyone in the family to spend several hours doing a variety of activities. 

Since there are no lifeguards, it is the parents responsibility and discretion when we are enjoying facilities at the resort. We found that the waters can be a little rough most times of the day, as the boats pass by. There is also a swimming pool close to the main inn. I like that all the activities can be enjoyed at our leisure, so it felt relaxing. I like that the resort has everything we need while we are there to enjoy the sports, and that everything is kept conveniently, so we can use it. 

Breakfast is included during the stay, and it is served in a buffet style at the Main Inn overlooking the lovely scenery of the Stoney lake. 

We can prepare our own meals at the cottage or enjoy the variety of meal options from the restaurants at the resort. I like that the menu has a variety to accommodate food restrictions. 

We tried a delicious BBQ-basket for dinner prepared by the chef. Everything came seasoned and ready to be cooked in the barbecue. The servings for each person was sufficient, and everyone enjoyed the delicious variety in the meal, prepared with local ingredients. If you want to try the BBQ basket, it must be ordered before 4 p.m. as they require a minimum of 4 hours to prep it before we can pick it up at the front desk. There is a variety of choices in the BBQ basket menu from seafood, vegan, and meat. The menu also includes desserts such as ice cream.

We also enjoyed a dinner meal at the Boathouse. I like that they use ingredients found locally and the menu has a wide range to choose from. We tried dishes such as the Dockside Irish Nachos, Cellar Salad, Manitoulin Organic Trout, The Quinoa Burger, and the Boathouse Sundae. At the boathouse, we can dine either inside or on the outdoor patio. They also have a fine-dining option with 7 and 9 course dinners at the Mount Julian Inn, which we didn't try. 

There is a variety of accommodations at the resort, which includes staying in the Main Inn, at the lodge, or in the cottages by the lake. We stayed at one of the two bedroom cottages. Our stay was pleasant, and we found the cottage to be convenient, as it has all the amenities. We like that throughout the resort there is lots of parking space, and we are able to park the car by the cottage as well.

The two-bedroom cottage we stayed at has two washrooms; the master bedroom has an attached washroom with a Jacuzzi, and the other bedroom with the bunk bed is close to the second bathroom with a stand-up shower. I like that they had the stand up shower in one of the bathrooms, as it was convenient to wash up after enjoying the beach.

There is a kitchen with all the appliances we need; stove with an oven, full fridge, microwave, sink, small appliances such as a kettle, coffee machine, utensils, plates, glasses, pans, and barbecue utensils. 

Once we get tired of playing all the outdoor activities, we can sit back and relax either on the patio and feel the lakes breeze or sit in the couch by the wooden fireplace, and watch TV and relax. There is a good selection of family movies we can borrow from the inn and watch as there is a DVD player in the cottage. They also have movie nights at the inn. 

There is Wi-Fi in the inn, but the reception in the cottage is not good; I guess this is a good way to keep us off-line and device free :) 

I like that during the stay the housekeeper came by to check to see if we needed anything. We found the cottage to be clean.

Although, there are many attractions close to the resort such as provincial parks, Trent-Severn Waterway, and more I am glad that Viamede resort has so many things for everyone in the family to do within the resort that it kept us occupied. We enjoyed the homely feel of the cottage, and we think it is a wonderful resort for families.
