We made this cute step stool with only a few pieces of wood. This step stool is sturdy and strong. It is very convenient, and useful for us.
This step stool has multiple uses for us. It helps us get things from the top shelves as well as lets us rest our legs while sitting on a chair. The kids use this as a mini stool to sit down.
To build this stool we used the following material...
Kreg jig
2.5 " pocket hole screws
Wood glue
1 piece of 2x6 wood (we used leftover 2x6 from other projects)
Brad nailer (optional)
2" brad nails (optional)
Cut List...
Base lengths :
Qty 2 - 10 inches
Qty 2 - 5 inches
Top lengths:
Qty 2 - 12.5 inches.
Bottom support :
Qty 1 - 9.5 inches
First, we assembled a set of 2 bases (legs) as shown using pocket hole screws.
We then aligned and connected the bases together using the bottom support.
After that we assembled the tops. The tops had a 1/4" overlap on either side. We used brad nails to attach the tops. You could also use 2.5 or 2" wood screws.
We used the bright Liberty Blue Fusion paint for the top, and for the sides and bottom we used the light blue Little Whale Fusion paint. Since we plant to use this step stool in high traffic areas in our home, we used Fusion's Tough Coat Matte Poly sealer. The Tough Coat Matte Poly sealer is non-yellowing and dries to a matte finish.
This turned out to be an easy and fast project. Once we painted the step stool it looks like it was purchased from a shop. You can also play around with the height or width of this step stool to suit your needs.

This is so cute! I love it!
ReplyDeleteWell that is easy enough to build, I should make one, it beats standing on the kitchen chairs to get something out of the cupboards
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a useful step stool that won't take up too much space. I've pinned it for future reference.
ReplyDeleteOh I love an easy project like this, and I was just thinking the other day that my toddler needs some kind of stool to be able to wash her hands properly in our downstairs bathroom that has a raised up sink. Perfect timing!! I am pretty sure she is going to want me to paint her a pink stool... :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat an easy way to build your own step stool. This would be great for those with little ones that can reach the sink to wash their hands.
ReplyDeleteGreat project! Thanks for the idea.

ReplyDeleteI could really use a step stool in my bedroom. The shelves in my closet are so high. I'm going to ask my brother to build one for me. Thanks for posting this project.
