March Break is a time to play, relax and explore and break the school days' routine for a week! Children will have lots of time to relax and try different activities. Having fun and exciting books to refer to can help children get inspired to explore. Here are three books from DK Canada that will help children build exciting computer projects, including games, music, and designs on the computer, or learn to draw, or do science experiments.
The DK Workbooks: Raspberry Pi Projects is perfect for children ages 7-11 who are new to programming, this highly visual workbook is a fun introduction to Raspberry Pi, an affordable credit-card-size computer that is revolutionizing the world of computing and can help boost kids' computer skills in a new and innovative way.
With easy-to-follow directions and fun pixel art, DK Workbooks: Raspberry Pi Projects helps kids understand the basics of computers, programming, and how to create cool projects in Scratch, Python, and Sonic Pi through fun, hands-on learning experiences. All they need is a Raspberry Pi computer, an SD card, an HDMI cable, a USB power supply, and a standard monitor, mouse, and keyboard.
After they learn how to program their Raspberry Pi, kids can make their own music using Sonic Pi, craft amazing designs using Python, and build and play their own computer games and projects with Scratch. They can even test their coding knowledge with written vocabulary and programming quizzes at the end of each project.
Supporting STEM education initiatives, computer coding teaches kids how to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically, and is quickly becoming a necessary and sought-after skill. DK's computer coding books are full of fun exercises with step-by-step guidance, making them the perfect introductory tools for building vital skills in computer programming.
How to Draw is a practical, inspirational, educational, and fun step-by-step guide to drawing. The book begins with simple skill instruction and build to more challenging projects to draw surroundings, people, animals, and more. It is packed with practical activities and techniques, including how to draw lines, shade, sketch, and trace. A cutout jacket even lets kids draw their own cover so the book really is their own unique piece of art.
The book has 16 pages of blank drawing space for children to try different approaches, such as illustrating stories and creating comic-book characters, and be inspired to explore and experiment with different styles. This book supports STEAM education initiatives, as it encourages picking up a pencil, crayon, or pen, use their imagination, and learn how to draw the things they love.
101 Great Science Experiments is a fun and comprehensive step-by-step science experiment resource that has photos, illustrations, and instructions that make the process clear.
This book is organized into 11 different science subjects and includes experiments for almost any interest area with experiments adults and children to do together, and experiments that can be done by children independently.
