I favour S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) education, as I believe it has lots of developmental benefits for our children and it helps them to gain wider perspectives. It is important for parents and educators to encourage children to understand basic concepts of these subjects, so they can make inquiries, explore and learn. Giving appropriate tools for exploration and play has direct impact on a child's development in a variety of levels such as cognitive, physical, literacy, numeracy, and emotional growth.
My children have been using Straw and Connectors for over four years, and it is one of the best toys they have. They found the new Straws and Connectors to be stronger. They like that the connectors snuggly fit into the straws, and like that the straws are flexible to build arches and tubes. Using scissors, we can cut the straws if its needed for the designs. My children feel that with more straws, they have more options to build a variety of designs and structures such as forts, rockets, boats, towers, tunnels, bridges, and more.
I like that the sets of Straws and Connectors come with diagrams and ideas for children to look through and read. It guides them to inquire how buildings and structures are made. While children build they will be able to make connections to architecture around them. As I observe my children playing with the straws and connectors, I see that they get lots of opportunities to develop their fine motor skills, from the initial twist and snap of the connectors to connecting the pieces each time they build and take apart the structures.
Children will also get lots of opportunities to move around while they build tall structures giving them chances to strengthen their gross motor skills. As children play with these straw and connectors in a group setting, they will also get the benefits of developing social and communication skills.
When playing with the Straws and Connectors, children will get the opportunity to develop a variety of skills. Straws and Connectors would encourage hands-on-learning and benefit children over four years of age if it is available for them at home and in classroom settings. These sets are available in different amounts of straws and connectors at different price ranges. The sets can be purchased in Canada, U.S.A, and many other countries at educational and toy stores.
