My grandma always reminds me about the ample benefits of yogurt; for example it helps cool our body, strengthen the immune system, and aids digestion. In our family, we have lots of yogurt in different forms - from making side dishes like raita, or including it in beverages and desserts to adding it to meals when we cook and bake.
Having the ease of buying readymade yogurt that tastes like homemade makes it convenient for us to enjoy it more. I like using Hans Dahi or Natural Yogurt, which is available in 3.2% and 2% because it is made with natural ingredients and has the thick consistency I want in yogurt.
In the summer, I spend less time in the kitchen and try to enjoy fruits and vegetables fresh by doing the least amount of cooking. This delicious cold salad or raita will go along with any meal, and would be a welcome addition to summer barbecues. You can use fresh ingredients right out of the garden. To make this Raita you will need...
1 cup of Hans Dahi or natural yogurt
1 red onion chopped small
1 tomato chopped small
1 cucumber chopped
Coriander leaves or parsley chopped (optional)
Chaat masala powder (optional it gives a delicious flavour available to purchase in the Indian food sections)
Roasted cumin powder or crushed cumin seeds
Salt and pepper to taste
Roasted cumin powder or crushed cumin seeds
Salt and pepper to taste
Mix all the ingredients together and serve it cold.
You can always change this recipe by adding ingredients you like such as fresh pomegranate, pineapple, mango, bell peppers, carrots, chopped green chilli, red chilli powder, mint and even grapes.
We can also purchase Hans Dairy Indian rice pudding made with just three ingredients milk, rice and sugar. It tastes homemade, and has the authentic taste of South Asian rice pudding with the right consistency and sweetness we enjoyed. The texture is different from the Italian rice pudding that is commonly found in stores. It is perfect to serve as it is, right out of the container or we can personalize this simple Kheer or rice pudding into a gourmet dessert by adding cinnamon or nuts.
We enjoy yogurt based drinks all year long, however I feel that summer days call for more cooling drinks, desserts and parfaits. The choice of beverage flavours have increased for us with our introduction to the selection of yogurt smoothies and lassi or natural yogurt drink from Hans Dairy. They have five fruit flavoured yogurt smoothies: mango, passionfruit, strawberry, blueberry, and peach.
The smoothies come in 200ml drink bottle containers, easy to take a long when travelling. Each of the Hans Dairy fruit flavoured yogurt smoothies brought out the natural taste of the fruit that added a uniqueness to it.

They also have 1 litre containers of sweet lassi or natural yogurt drink, and a spice and salty lassi flavour. We enjoyed the authentic taste of the lassis! It is convenient to have these healthy classic natural yogurt drinks, and fruit flavoured smoothies in our fridge to enjoy anytime.
What we like the most about Hans Dairy products is that we can recognize every item in their ingredient list, which does not include additives or preservatives. Their products have the Foodland Ontario symbol as the ingredients such as milk and fruit are sourced locally in Ontario.
