These days many people we know talk about gut health and are paying more attention to it. Doctors and naturopaths are sharing more on how important it is for us to balance the "good" and "bad" bacteria that live in our digestive tract for our overall wellbeing.
You may have heard the term - Probiotics - this is a beneficial bacteria that naturally grow in our intestinal tract to help us with digestion. The probiotic supplements from Renew Life are comprised of lab-grown versions of beneficial bacteria to help strengthen what our body is already making and compensate for what our gut may be lacking. For example antibiotics can deplete good bacteria, and probiotics help get things back on track.
Renew Life has created probiotic supplements using natural ingredients that are GMO free, and does not contain artificial ingredients, colours or preservatives or fillers. Renew Life founded in 1997 is a Health Canada approved North American's #1 digestive care and cleansing company. Their capsules have a specialized delivery system with a enteric-coating or DRcaps™ that protect it from harsh stomach acid and deliver it directly to the intestines.
Dr. Sara Celik, a naturopathic doctor and spokesperson for Renew Life says, supplements deliver heavy dose of probiotics than food; for example, one serving of yogurt has one billion good bacteria whereas a daily supplement could have 50 times that amount.
Renew Life has a variety of tailored packs we can choose from. The packaging recommends one capsule a day for anyone over 6 years.
- Ultimate Flora Go Pack priced at $30 does not require refrigeration. Each capsule has 50 billion active cultures from 12 different bacteria strains including one to fight respiratory infections.
- Ultimate Flora Critical Care priced at $37 for individuals with chronic digestive problems and those who want to strengthen their immune system after taking antibiotics. This probiotic supplements has 50 billion active cultures from 10 strains of bacteria.
- Ultimate Flora Ultra Potent priced at $53 is their strongest probiotic that has 100 billion live cultures from 0 stains of bacteria to help severe digestive issues and help rebuild microbiome diversity after multiple rounds of antibiotics.
Emerging research shows probiotics support digestive health, decrease inflammation that trigger skin issues such as acne and eczema, improve vitamin and mineral absorption, improve mood and gastrointestinal functions, respiratory functions, and allergy responses. It can also counter the negative effects of antibiotic.
In addition to taking probiotic supplements, eating a diet rich in fibre and fermented foods and beverages such as kimchi, kombucha and kefir can help promote good bacteria. There are several things we can do to improve our gut health such as drinking plenty of water, limiting sugar, alcohol and caffeine intake which can deplete good bacteria. Surrounding ourselves with plants and spending time with animals can benefit our microbiome.
