The Science Book is DK's Big Ideas newest title which has artwork, step-by-step diagrams, and illustrations that break down complicated ideas into manageable concepts. The book helps to make concepts such as genetic engineering, black holes, and global warming understandable. There are mini-biographies of the most well-known scientists, and a glossary of helpful scientific terms.
We liked learning about a variety of facts from this book...
It was interesting to know that all living things are composed of cells, which Robert Hooke recorded using descriptions and drawings in the publication of Micrographia in 1665. And about theories such as Theory of continental drift that suggests Earth's continents were once connected but moved apart over millions of years.

How Technology Works lets us discover the hidden workings of everyday technology. This graphic guide helps us answer curious questions like how the inventions, gadgets, and devices that surround us actually work.
It is interesting to learn about different machinery, simple objects such as zip fasteners and can openers work to the latest sophisticated devices such as smart watches, and personal digital assistants. It includes inventions that have changed the course of history, like the internal combustion engine, as well as technologies that might hold the key to our future survival, including solar cells and new kinds of farming to feed a growing population. The opening chapter explains principles that underpin lots of devices, from basic mechanics to electricity to digital technology. From there, devices are grouped by application such as the home, transportation, and computing making them easy to find and placing similar devices side by side.
We like how this book takes apart the devices and shows us what is inside it and how it works. Have you ever been curious to know what makes a vacuum cleaner, television, and other everyday devices work. If so, you will enjoy this colourful book with lots of diagrams, simple and original graphics, and step-by-step explanations.
