This watercolour technique inspired by the paint lab book is a fun way to create beautiful backgrounds on watercolour paper. Once the paper dries we can add drawings or calligraphy that will stand out.
For this project you will need...
Watercolour paper
Cling film or plastic wrap
Watercolour paint
Painters tape
Black marker
First, put painters tape all around the watercolour paper. This tape is removed after the painting dries to create a beautiful frame for the work.
Then use any colour you like and put drops of paint, the paint needs to be wet.
Place the plastic wrap in full contact with the paper over the wet paint. There needs to be wrinkles on the plastic wrap to get the effects.
Leave the plastic wrap on and let it dry overnight. Peel the plastic wrap the next day and you will see a beautiful background that is ready to be worked on. The plastic wrap can be saved to reuse.
Use a black marker and do a drawing or writing over the dry background.
