Long summer days are perfect for outdoor crafts. We did a fun project inspired by nature using Plaster of Paris from Craft Project Ideas. Since mediums like Plaster of Paris require time to dry, we find this process is a little faster when we dry it outdoors in the summer heat.
First, get all the supplies ready before you begin this craft project. You will need...
1 bag or 1 pound of Plaster of Paris
1 1/2 cups water
1 1/2 cups water
a dinner plate
thick plastic
old container to mix
stick to stir or any other tool to stir the mixture

fresh leaves with prints from the garden
Mod Podge to seal
DecoArt acrylic and glitter acrylic paint
DecoArt acrylic and glitter acrylic paint
paint brushes
Take the dinner plate and place the plastic sheet over it. We opened a plastic bag that was going to be thrown out and placed it over the plate.
Mix the water and Plaster of Paris in an old container using a stick to get a thick pancake or creamy yogurt like mixture without lumps. This video shows how to mix.
Pour this mixture over the plate and tap the plate down lightly to remove any air bubbles.

Place the leaves over the plaster and lightly press on to the plaster of paris. Let it dry for about 10 minutes. Then carefully peel the leaves off. The plaster will still be wet, leave it to dry overnight or a few hours until you feel it is completely dry. I didn't sand the edges of this platter.
Once the plaster of paris is dry paint it. We used different colours of green and glitter acrylic paint to paint the platter. When it completely dried, we put a coat of mod podge to seal the paint and to give a shine to this platter.
We are using this platter as table decor, it brings a bit of nature indoors.
