Most of the time, during the cold season we neglect our gardens, only to face a huge amount of effort preparing the garden once the sun begins to shine. We all look forward to garden parties, barbecuing, playdates, catch-ups, and to relax and enjoy ourselves in the summer. So why not make it easy to jump right into the fun by preparing a few items ahead of time?
Strip Everything Back
Many plants remain dormant or dead in the winter, making them easier to remove and compost. So spend a weekend disposing of all the overgrown weeds, trimming back unkempt plants, and creating a clean slate to work with. It may take some time to get rid of everything but it can save you time in the summer. You can also clear anything you don't want or need, such as old patio furniture or damaged and unusable items.
Sort Out Any Pests
Unfortunately, pests do exist in gardens; it's just a fact of life. If you have neighbourhood cats who come in and use your garden as a kitty litter box, you may need to find the safest alternative for repelling cats. Once a cat has used a location to get rid of waste, it will return to it on a frequent basis. You might also be susceptible to having bugs, which isn't usually a problem, but they can bite and quickly grow out of hand, resulting in them entering your home. So look for the easiest approach to get rid of ant nests for example and get rid of them for good.
It's Time To Get Planting
There are various and optimum periods to plant certain items throughout the year, whether it's flowers or fruits and veggies. If you have a planting calendar, you can identify which plants may be planted now and begin planting them in the garden, so that by the time summer arrives, you will already have some plants growing. Even if you don't have a green thumb, there are plants that self-seed and will continue to prosper regardless of your gardening skills. Fruit and vegetable gardening is a little more difficult, but if you're not sure where to start, you can usually buy plants that are already blooming and producing food.
Help With Maintenance
You might also get assistance with the garden, especially if it is large. Maintaining and making it look beautiful can be tough at times. In these situations, seeking assistance is a wise decision. You can hire a gardener and landscaper to take care of the plants and keep track of things so you don't have to. You might also want someone to look after your pool, clean it, and keep it hygienic if you have one. If you have a hot tub, you need to hire a hot tub maintenance service to keep it in good shape.
