In the spring and summer, we spend a lot of time in the garden. Spending time tending for the plants and caring for the green space can be quite relaxing and satisfying. Here are some easy ways to spruce up the garden in no time when it starts to look a little tired.
Spring clean and add some colour
Start by giving the lawn a good spring clean. Rake up any dead leaves, moss, or debris that has gathered over the winter months. If there are any patches of bare grass, sow some new seeds.
Once the lawn starts to look good, think about adding some colour with flowers and plants. Flowers are a great way to brighten up any garden, and there are plenty of easy-to-care-for varieties that will thrive in even the most neglected of gardens. We choose perennials like coneflowers and liatris that come up every year and easy to care for. Annuals such as impatiens, petunias, and marigolds can add quick colour to the garden and can be planted every year. Creating a border by adding a few plants along the edge of the lawn or patio can create a beautiful focus.
Once the plants are added think about accessorizing with structures that goes with your style. Garden stakes are a great way to add height and interest, and they're perfect for supporting climbing plants like sweet peas and clematis. Bird baths and feeders attract wildlife into the garden, adding more fun and interest to the space.
To personalize and add some creativity to the space we got a plain sign with the words welcome on it and painted flowers using bright Decoart acrylic paint. This made the sign look more welcoming and bright. This paint can withstand outdoor weather.
To do this you will need...
A wooden welcome sign or a wooden board
Decoart acrylic paint
Paint brushes
Pencil
First paint the board with the colour you want for the background if you don't like the original colour of the board. We chose a light grey.
Once it dries draw the flowers directly on the wooden board. Then paint with the acrylic paint by adding layers once it dries or use the wet-on-wet method.
After completing the painting let it dry well before hanging it outside.
Get rid of weeds
Weeds are one of the most common problems in gardens, but they're also one of the easiest to solve. The key to getting rid of weeds is to catch them early - before they have a chance to take over the garden. The best way to do this is to pull them up by hand as soon as it is seen. This might seem like a lot of work, but it's actually really satisfying - and it's the only way to be sure that the weeds are taken out from the roots.
Once the weeds are removed, it is important to prevent them from growing back. The best way to do this is to use a weed barrier when new flowers or vegetables are planted. This will stop the weeds from being able to take root in the garden.
Hire tree services
If there are big trees in the garden, then it's important to make sure that they are well-maintained. Overgrown trees can cause all sorts of problems, from damaging the property to blocking out sunlight.
The best way to keep your trees healthy is to hire Tree Services to come and give them a check-up every few years. They'll be able to spot any problems early on, and they'll also be able to provide advice on how to care for the trees.
These are some things we do in a regular basis to up keep our garden and enjoy the warm season.
