Michaels Starts their Annual Summer Crafting Program Passport to Imagination

Last year, my children participated in the Michaels Passport to Imagination and enjoyed a variety of activities during their 2 hours for $2. Michaels will be having their annual in-store summer crafting program, Passport to Imagination starting on Monday July 7th. Children ages 5 and up will enjoy these sessions that gives them an opportunity to get creative, and explore different art medium and techniques. This year Michaels has partnered with 7 of North America’s best museums to create a museum road trip. Each day, kids will experience culture through crafts with projects inspired by world-class museum exhibits.

Exploring South America at Michaels Passport to Imagination

Since I took the Michaels unplugged summer pact, we have been seriously committing time to do crafts. My daughter has been participating in the Michaels Passport to Imagination summer craft program whenever time permitted. She really enjoys the activities that are instructed by a Michaels staff during the sessions, in which children learn about different icons and landmarks in the seven continents. My daughter enjoys being able to use different craft medium and material that are provided to do the activities.

Making Our Own Pencil and Pen Holders

I love doing crafts with my kids, but sometimes technology can get in the way of having fun and doing our crafts. So I have signed the Michaels unplugged summer pact and made a promise to create time for what's important by taking a couple of hours a day to do crafts with my children. 

We are looking forward to participate in the Michaels Passport to Imagination 7-week summer craft program, whenever we get a chance to go to the store. To start off, we made these pencil and pen holders using recyclable material.  

Making a Personalized Treasure Box

Decoupage is the hottest trend in the crafting world.  Mod Podge is an all-in-one glue, sealer and finish that we can use to do lots of decorations and craft projects with a little bit of paper and cloth.  The possibilities are only limited by our imagination!  

I am new to Mod Podge and decoupage tools, so I excitedly did many projects using Mod Podge with my children.  We will be sharing our projects one at a time, so stay tuned :)  Here is a link to the Mod Podge Formula guide, which I found useful because it has tips and tricks for the beginners :)

For this Personalized box, we needed...
a shoebox
Mod Podge
Mod Podge with glitter *
foam brush
cloth
iron optional
scissors
paper to line the working surface

*Mod Podge can be found at craft stores like Michaels, and it is available in the 6-pot sampler pack or 8 oz bottles.

First iron and cut the cloth to the fit and cover the shoebox.  Apply Mod Podge generously on the shoe box and glue the cloth.  Put Mod Podge in a small section and cover with the cloth before doing another section because Mod Podge dries fast.  

After the cloth glued on the shoebox dries completely, apply a coat of Mod Podge glitter and let it dry completely before using.  This would make a lovely Personalized gift.  I gave this box to my daughter to keep her treasures.
